Unearthly
Orchestra.
Gently wafting ambient adagios of sound from theremin and
effects.
background
It's
very easy to get carried away on the theremin - there
is no resistance of your hands in the air - excess is
easy. One night I just set up some a few chords rotating
on multiple long delays and through a slowly moving filter
- went away and got on with other things - I came back
and it was still going, I then realised the minimalism
of it was really beautiful.
So I set about recording a whole album of ambient restrained
pieces like that. I changed a few small things from track
to track - added voice, low whistle or chimes sparingly
for a little extra colour, changed the order of the effects
- on one track I used sounds, on another I added an arpegiated
filter work on the sound. But generally I wanted a similar
feel throughout. Listening back made me think of classcial
string sections and adagios, hence the title.
